Now in its fourth year, this popular vacation program is thriving. This time, the motto was: "Venturing into the unknown - Together into the unknown."
With 50 young participants, the project (15th-19th July) was more well-attended than ever before. The shared experiences around art, culture, and nature strengthened the bonds between the various project groups.
In-house gist
At the finale on 19th July, each team received a standing ovation. Family and friends gathered on the edge of the meadow for the initial dance, music, and improvisational theater performances. The "Art" workshops then took center stage under the trees, showcasing the creations built with natural materials like wood, clay, paper, and more.
Interest was high in the video documentation of the project. Here, adults got a glimpse into the basics of video creation. A video was also produced about this project week, which will later be displayed on the KREA website.
André Eigenbrod, Director of Krea mentioned, "Collaborating with the social network and the municipal youth office, we reach children and young people from all of Bergisch Gladbach - strengthened with new target groups from various cultural and social families and also from the children's home. It benefits the participants to connect with other young people, share common ground, and explore personal themes beyond their usual environment, all within a cultural project setting."
The workshops were not only about artistic expression but also about building trust, self-efficacy, developing courage, and overcoming fears of the unknown.
The OPEN SOURCE project is free for all participants. It is funded by the Kultur-Rucksack NRW / Ministry of Culture and Science / Ministry for Children, Youth, Family, Equality, Flight and Integration NRW.

What If We Embraced the Open Source Concept?
Open source projects are initiatives where the source code or blueprints are made freely available to the public, promoting collaboration, transparency, and community engagement in software, hardware, or creative content development. Although no direct workshops for Refrath are currently listed, similar events showcasing open source principles can foster technical, social, and creative growth among youth.
These events might be organized by local tech hubs, educational institutions, or community centers. Collaboration with surrounding cities or regional initiatives can also provide access to a broader range of workshops and events.
Adopting the open source ethos in Refrath could lead to skills development, cultural influence, and tangible community impact. By encouraging networking, promoting local engagement, and valuing sustainability, the open source movement can empower young people, embrace inclusivity, and cultivate entrepreneurship in the community.
Here are two sentences following the text that incorporate the given words:
- To further foster creativity and collaboration, the open source ethos could be extended to include fashion-and-beauty and home-and-garden workshops within the "Open Source" project, allowing participants to explore and express themselves in new ways.
- In the spirit of the open source movement, a digital platform could be created for the project, where images of art creations, performance photos, and videos of past Open Source weeks could be shared, encouraging a lifestyle of creative documentation and showcasing the impact of the project to a wider audience.
