Commemorative Festivities Mark the Bicentennial of Berlin Museum Island - Two-century celebration of the Museum Island in Berlin

Marking a Commemorative Weekend: Celebrating 200 Years of Berlin's Museum Island

Prepare to immerse yourself in history as Berlin's Museum Island celebrates its 200th anniversary this weekend from May 30 to June 1, 2025. Hosted by the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation (SPK), the "Island Festival" will showcase a plethora of activities, bringing together culture, education, and entertainment.

The festivities kick off at the open-air stage in the historic colonnade courtyard between the New Museum and the Old National Gallery. Over the course of three days, you can expect around 70 free guided tours offering insights into the heritage and architecture of Museum Island, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1999.

A day ticket priced at €14 grants access to all the institutions within the historic ensemble and their special exhibitions. To add an extra layer of celebration, this year marks the beginning of a five-year program by the SPK, which will feature numerous special exhibitions throughout this milestone year.

This commemorative occasion will also signal the start of a year-long series of events celebrating the island’s bicentennial. Highlights of the festival include workshops, stage performances, film screenings, and a special ceremony on Sunday, 1 June, at 11 am.

Moreover, the festival aims to engage the public not only through educational activities but also by featuring performances and expert-led workshops across all six museums on Museum Island. Further details about specific events are yet to be announced.

Founded in 1696, Museum Island stands as one of the most significant collections of culture and art in the world, boasting six museums: Altes Museum, Bode Museum, Neues Museum, Alte Nationalgalerie, Pergamonmuseum, and the Alteulpinkel. These institutions serve as a testament to Berlin's rich cultural history, making this weekend's festival an event not to be missed.
