Three memorable days: Moorburg's Shooting Club hosts their combined shooting and folk celebration
The Schützenverein zu Moorburg recently celebrated their annual Schützenfest from Friday, 2nd to Sunday, 4th August. The three-day event, held at Moorkathen (Moorburger Kirchdeich 63), was a success, with the community coming together for traditional celebrations and festivities[1][2].
During the event, Marlon Seltmann was crowned the new Schützenkönig (King) of Moorburg. He earned the title by shooting down the wooden "vogel" (bird) target. His queen is Jessica Sabsch, and his adjutants are Marcel Ritter, Michael Rüpke, and his father, Michael Seltmann. The former commander, Ernst Wilhelm Prigge, performed the proclamation and will substitute for Marlon during his kingly year[2].
The festival featured a variety of activities, including a children's festival on Friday, with a children's king shooting competition for children up to 12 years old starting at 3 pm on the festival grounds[1]. On Saturday and Sunday evenings, the tent party with DJ Boerschi took place, providing entertainment for festival-goers[1]. The party night on Saturday, starting at 8:30 pm, is said to be a highlight, even for non-Schützen[1]. Admission to both performances by DJ Boerschi is free.
In addition to the music, auto-scooters, stalls, and a beer tent were also present at the festival, adding to the lively atmosphere[1]. Schützenking Hans-Georg "Schorsch" Wente, who has been involved in shooting sports for over 50 years, was also present, having followed in the footsteps of his grandfather, who commanded the Schützenverein zu Moorburg while riding a horse[1].
The Schützenfest concluded on Sunday, following the proclamation, with the party night with DJ Boerschi marking the end of the festivities[1]. The Schützenverein zu Moorburg is looking forward to repeating this new concept next year, with the positive response from the community[2].
Meanwhile, the Schützenverein Moorwerder held a related but distinct Schützenfestival from August 8 to 10, 2025, on the Elbinsel Wilhelmsburg. This event featured an open-air stage, dance floor, family program, and a diverse culinary offer[1]. The festival started on Friday, August 8 at 7 pm with an official opening followed by a charity walk and ended with a fireworks display and party[1]. This was a new open-air event concept aimed at attracting a wide community from Wilhelmsburg and surroundings with free entrance[1].

In the subsequent Schützenfest event in Wilhelmsburg, an outdoor stage, dance floor, and family program were incorporated into the festivities, offering a diverse culinary experience for the community[1]. For those who prefer an outdoor lifestyle, the Schützenverein Moorwerder also introduced a new open-air concept in their Schützenfestival, attracting a wider community with free admission and a variety of activities[1].
