Street art illuminates surroundings
The district representation 8 has taken a significant step towards enhancing the aesthetic appeal of Eller, with the financing of a graffiti art project at Eller-Süd S-Bahn station. This initiative, led by local graffiti artists from Tubuku, has transformed the station into a new attraction in Eller.
Before the makeover, the underpass at Eller-Süd S-Bahn station was perceived as dreary and not a pleasant place to linger. However, the redesign has brought a significant change, making walking through the tunnel a significantly more pleasant experience.
Jürgen Hagendorn, Chairman of the Retail Association, expressed his hope that Eller residents and travelers would appreciate the new underpass. He also stated that the advertising community has ensured that Eller-Süd S-Bahn station remains free of graffiti for over 13 years.
The redesign was a collaborative effort, with support from BV 8, the city of Düsseldorf, and Deutsche Bahn. The underpass has been brightened with colorful colours, including local motifs such as St. Gertrude's Church, the old tram, and Eller Castle.
The Krefeld design agency Tubuku, led by Alex Weigandt and Jaroslaw Masztalerz, was responsible for the project. Jürgen Hagendorn also hopes that the redesigned underpass can serve as a model for other S-Bahn stations.
It is worth noting that the redesign of Eller-Süd S-Bahn station was a significant financial effort. A total of 42,000 euros was provided by the district representation for the art action at the station.
Mayor Thomas Geisel, District Mayor Wilhelm van Leyen, and Jürgen Hagendorn presented the newly redesigned public underpass at Eller-Süd S-Bahn station. The Tubuku design agency has previously implemented numerous street art projects of a similar nature. The new underpass features colorful motifs that create an appealing atmosphere, making Eller-Süd S-Bahn station a must-see for anyone visiting Eller.
Engaging in a holistic approach to improve the district's atmosphere, Jürgen Hagendorn, the Retail Association Chairman, is advocating for the application of the successful graffiti art approach at Eller-Süd S-Bahn station to other areas, such as outdoor-living spaces and home-and-garden landscapes. The vibrant, local motif-oriented graffiti at Eller-Süd S-Bahn station has significantly boosted interest in this lifestyle, potentially encouraging more homeowners and residents to cultivate an outdoor-living style adorned with inspiring art pieces.
