SPD anticipates the "Girls' Academy" opening
The city of Oberhausen is set to welcome a new educational initiative, the "Oberhausen 'Girls' Academy'". This project, spearheaded by Hochschule Ruhr West, is aimed at inspiring and engaging girls in the fields of Mathematics, Informatics, Natural Sciences, and Technology (MINT).
Claudia Salwik, the spokesperson for equal opportunities in the SPD faction and a member of the city council, expressed her delight about the commencement of the academy. She thanked all Oberhausen entrepreneurs and companies participating in the project, highlighting its potential to enrich the educational landscape of the city.
The "Girls' Academy" is a continuation of the established "Girls' Days" and will enrich the offer of "Lab4U". Each year, 20 students from different secondary schools will be supported by the academy. The focus remains on promoting MINT subjects and careers for girls, with the ultimate goal of encouraging them to consider a MINT job in a local company.
The academy offers a variety of engaging educational programs, such as the "Am Rande des Weltalls!" (At the Edge of Space) holiday workshop for girls from grade 8. These events aim to break down traditional barriers and encourage girls to consider studies and careers in STEM fields by providing supportive role models and hands-on activities.
The core objective of the Girls' Academy Oberhausen is to increase girls' enthusiasm for MINT subjects and support their development in these traditionally male-dominated fields. By accompanying future employees on their way into studies and training, the academy hopes to make a significant impact on the local business landscape.
Claudia Salwik expressed her gratitude for the support of the Oberhausen business community, stating that the academy is not just about academics but also about networking between students, companies, and the university. She believes that this networking will be a win for the educational landscape of the city.
In conclusion, the "Oberhausen 'Girls' Academy'" is an exciting development for the city, offering a unique opportunity for girls to explore and excel in MINT subjects and careers. The academy is set to commence in April and is poised to make a positive impact on the educational and business landscape of Oberhausen.
