Roosevelt Island in New York City updates its Professional Audiovisual technology, integrating vital digital solutions.
Modern Technology Upgrade Transforms Roosevelt Island
Roosevelt Island, located in New York City's East River, has undergone a significant technological transformation, thanks to Elite Design Systems (EDS). The comprehensive project, spanning over multiple years, aimed to modernize the island's technology framework, promote connectivity, improve digital communications, and support collaborative and multimedia functions.
At the heart of the upgrade is the facility-wide sound reinforcement system, controlled by dBx processors and amplified by Crown. The system is managed via RS-232 from the AV over IP hardware and executed by user iPads running the Key Digital Compass Control Pro app.
EDS's work encompassed three key areas: digital signage, LAN networking infrastructure, and Professional Audio-Visual (Pro AV) technology.
The digital signage installation saw the deployment of high-resolution displays integrated with user-friendly content management systems. This setup allowed for real-time updates and streamlined communications for residents and visitors across Roosevelt Island facilities.
The LAN networking infrastructure was upgraded to a robust, high-speed local area network, providing widespread connectivity needs across buildings. This modern infrastructure features modern cabling, networking hardware, and security protocols optimized for reliability and scalability.
In terms of Pro AV technology, EDS integrated advanced audio and video systems into conference room setups, public announcement systems, and multimedia display capabilities. This upgrade enhanced the multimedia experience in meeting rooms and communal areas.
Notably, each AV system implemented on Roosevelt Island is independent to its building or area. For instance, the Youth Center AV solution utilizes a 4x20 AV-over-IP system with 50-inch televisions, one drop-down projector, and local table-mounted switcher/extender plates.
Key Digital provided the core hardware for the new Pro AV technology, with the Roosevelt Island Sportspark complex featuring an 8x16 AV-over-IP system based on Key Digital's KD-IP922. The command center in the police station boasts an 85-inch TV fed by a Key Digital KD-MLV4x4Pro, controlled by the Compass Control Pro app.
The gymnasium in the Sportspark complex has a large amplifier with big speakers for events like dances on the basketball court. One monitor is housed outdoors, and most monitors in the Sportspark complex are 50-inch televisions, including a 4x4 video wall. An additional Key Digital wall plate switcher/extender (KD-X3x1WUTX) allows local computer display on all TVs or just one.
Three televisions have local switcher/extender plates that allow the selection between a pair each of gaming systems or the BrightSign digital signage system. The Mosaic Church, RIOC's Operating Center, Tramway, and the lighthouse also received installations and enhancements as part of the project.
Sources for the AV system include five cable-television boxes and two BrightSign digital signage players. EDS team leader Bobby Imkhanitsky designed and implemented a technology upgrade that integrated with RIOC's existing infrastructure. Imkhanitsky has specified Key Digital solutions for 15 years due to their excellent technical support team.
The police station on Roosevelt Island now features a digital signage system, including a modest AV-over-IP system for future expansion. This upgrade is part of EDS's commitment to transforming Roosevelt Island into a technologically advanced and connected community.
