The city of Worms has embarked on a significant renovation project for the Hanns-Thierolf-Anlage, a popular green space linking the old town with the green belt. The renovation, which started on June 30th, 2021, is expected to continue into the winter of 2025/26.

The project, a final phase of construction along the Willy-Brandt-Ring, aims to modernize the Hanns-Thierolf-Anlage while preserving its historical and landscape character. Timo Horst, the city's development and construction director, emphasizes that the renovation improves the quality of stay and ensures the long-term usability of the area.

The renovation plan is divided into three phases, each focusing on specific aspects of the park's infrastructure and landscape.

**Phase 1** (June 2021 – End 2022) includes initial preparations and demolition, planting preparation, and assessments of existing power and water lines.

**Phase 2** (Early 2023 – End 2024) will see the renovation of walls and staircases, installation of new seating areas, extensive planting and landscaping, and the renewal of power and water lines.

**Phase 3** (Early 2025 – Winter 2025/26) will involve final planting and landscaping touches, completion of infrastructure works, installation of additional amenities, and opening preparations.

Key features and improvements include native trees, shrubs, seasonal flowers, and pollinator plants, durable, aesthetic, accessible walls and staircases, new ergonomic benches, group seating zones, underground replacement of power cables, and new water lines for irrigation and park maintenance.

Throughout the project, work will be coordinated with local authorities to minimize disruptions. Environmental guidelines will be adhered to, ensuring protection of local wildlife and habitats. Public communication and engagement sessions may occur to inform residents about progress and temporary access changes.

The renovation aligns with sustainable urban development, according to Timo Horst, and is expected to increase the aesthetic and ecological value of the Hanns-Thierolf-Anlage, improve visitor safety, comfort, and accessibility, reduce maintenance costs, enhance sustainability, and create inviting social and recreational spaces.
