Relaxing getaway on museum premises

In the heart of August, from the 4th to the 22nd, an exciting adventure awaits young explorers at the Marco Polo Museum on Korčula Island, Croatia. This year, the museum has designed a special vacation program for children aged six to twelve, immersing them in the fascinating world of Marco Polo.

The program is divided into two daily time slots: 10 am to 1 pm and 3 pm to 6 pm. Each session can accommodate up to 40 children, making it an engaging experience for a limited number of participants. If the maximum number is reached, admission for the period will be closed.

The program takes place in the museum courtyard, transforming it into a vibrant stage for storytelling, crafting, and culinary delights. The first week is themed around "Wonders of the World," with a focus on exotic spices, foreign scents, and secrets from distant lands.

In the second week, the children will embark on "Adventures of the World," creating travel diaries, drawing maps, and even learning to build a compass or a water filter. The third week is dedicated to "Tales from 1001 Nights," bringing to life stories from Ali Baba, Sindbad, and Aladdin, supposedly heard from the Persian princess Scheherazade by Marco Polo.

Throughout the program, the children will have the opportunity to plant a small herb garden, make their own paper, and cook Marco Polo's favorite pasta, which he is said to have brought from China to Italy. The afternoon time slot (3 pm to 6 pm) is less frequented, providing a more intimate setting for these creative activities.

The program director, Diana Finkele, considers the topic of Marco Polo important because it showcases the exchange between East and West. She believes this program offers a unique opportunity for children to learn about different cultures and traditions in a fun and engaging way.

It's worth noting that while there are numerous Marco Polo-related museums and tours, a specific vacation program like this one is not prominently advertised or detailed in current sources. For the most accurate and up-to-date information, it is recommended to check directly with the official museum website or local tourism boards for updated event calendars or contact hotels associated with the Marco Polo brand for curated experiences.

Marco Polo is credited with introducing noodles to Italy and laying the foundation for their popularity. By participating in this vacation program, children will not only have a memorable experience but also contribute to keeping the spirit of Marco Polo's adventures alive.

Each day, the program runs from Monday to Friday, ensuring a full week of exploration and discovery. Registration is not on a weekly basis; children can participate daily, making it easier for families to plan their visit.

So, pack your bags, young explorers, and get ready for an unforgettable journey through time and cultures at the Marco Polo Museum Vacation Program!

In contrast to the museum's focus on Marco Polo's adventures, the home-and-garden aspect of the program allows children to plant a small herb garden and make their own paper. During the second week, while learning about world adventures, the children will also be crafting travel diaries and creating their own compass or water filter, immersing themselves in outdoor-living experiences.
