Nestled at Kársnes point in Kópavogur, just a ten-minute drive from Reykjavík city center, lies the Sky Lagoon - an alternative to the famous Blue Lagoon for those seeking a sea view. This man-made geothermal pool offers a modern and minimalistic, yet cozy and mystical, spa experience.

The Sky Lagoon's managing director, Dagn ý Pétursdóttir, states that the seven-stage ritual will enable guests to connect with mind, body, and spirit through the radiant powers of geothermal waters. The ritual is structured to provide an immersive and holistic approach to relaxation and well-being.

The journey begins in the 70-meter-long, heated infinity pool, where guests can relax and enjoy the breathtaking ocean views. This is the Laug, or warm lagoon, stage. The first stage also offers the opportunity to slow down, stand under a waterfall, or have a relaxing welcome drink.

Next, guests are invited to take a invigorating cold plunge, or Kuldi, before entering the spa. This stage is designed to stimulate circulation and energize the system.

The third stage offers a sauna with a sea view through one of the largest windows in Iceland. The sauna is kept so clean it appears nearly invisible, promoting detoxification and deepening relaxation. Guests can shower with tropical-style cold mist after the sauna, providing a refreshing contrast.

Following the sauna, guests move to the steam room for further detoxification and respiratory benefits. The steam bath helps to relax and soften the skin, preparing it for the next step - a body scrub.

The body scrub in Step 5 is made from sea salt, almond oil, grapeseed oil, and sesame oil, exfoliating and smoothing the skin.

The ritual concludes with a natural berry drink to hydrate and nourish internally, providing the perfect finish to this unique Icelandic spa experience.

A visit to the Smakk Bar for pickled herring or Icelandic cheese can enhance the experience, making it a memorable addition to any trip to Iceland. The large sauna offers ample space for guests to warm up, while the lagoon is used at the beginning and end of the ritual for rinsing off and reconnecting with the serene ocean setting.

Whether you're a first-time visitor or have explored Iceland before, the Sky Lagoon's seven-stage ritual offers a rejuvenating and revitalizing experience that combines hot and cold therapies, exfoliation, steam, and sensory treatments to promote relaxation and well-being.

Guests at the Sky Lagoon can also immerse themselves in the culture of Iceland by visiting the Smakk Bar, where traditional Icelandic cuisine like pickled herring and cheese are served.

After the body scrub, the ritual concludes with a home-and-garden inspired touch, a natural berry drink to hydrate and nourish internally, mimicking the comfort of a cozy Icelandic home.
