Redevelopment of playground "Großgarten" in Oberwürzbach now includes a play area for children with special needs.
In the heart of Oberwürzbach, nestled between the Würzbach and surrounded by green hills, a new attraction has emerged - the inclusive playground "Großgarten". This multi-generational facility, located at the village centre by the stream, is quickly becoming a popular meeting place for young and old.
The playground's equipment has expanded to 13 pieces, including a new climbing tower, a baby swing, climbing nets, slides, a trampoline, a multi-purpose field, a ping-pong table, a boules court, and most notably, an inclusive carousel. This makes "Großgarten" the first playground in the entire city area of St. Ingbert to feature such an accessible carousel.
Jasmin Neger, the city's disability officer, was involved from the beginning in the realization of this inclusive carousel. Lived inclusion was the goal, allowing children with and without disabilities to use the playground together. The successful implementation of the carousel is credited to the employees of the department of city greenery and the municipal works department.
The local mayor, Dunja Sauer, describes the unique atmosphere on the square as one designed with a multi-generational focus. Right next to the playground is a multi-generational house and a grill hut with a large outdoor area, regularly used for events and can be rented for a small fee at the local administration office.
Funding for this rural development and integration project was provided by the Ministry of the Interior, Building and Sport of the Saarland. The funding was part of the regional budget, a funding instrument for small projects up to 20,000 euros. The authority that provided the funds for the construction of the disability-accessible carousel in Oberwürzbach is the state government (Land) and the regional association (Regionalverband).
The inclusive carousel stands as a strong symbol of lived inclusion in Oberwürzbach. It's not just a playground; it's a place where everyone can come together, enjoy, and learn from each other. Whether it's for a family outing, a club party, a celebration, or a school or kindergarten event, "Großgarten" offers a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.
