Recognition for the Year: Outstanding Unity Homes and Enterprise Among Small and Medium Businesses

In the bustling city of Leeds, Unity Homes and Enterprise, a Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) housing association, has made a significant impact in the housing sector. The organisation, which manages around 1,400 properties, has recently been nominated for the prestigious Northern Housing Awards, showcasing its commitment to providing excellent service and impactful housing solutions within its community.

Unity Homes and Enterprise was shortlisted for the Best Customer Experience category, a testament to its dedication to delivering high-quality housing and customer service. The organisation's not-for-profit subsidiary, Unity Enterprise (UE), also made the list, vying for the SME of the Year award.

UE offers a wide range of support and assistance to tenants, helping them find jobs, start businesses, access training and education opportunities, or work as community volunteers. The subsidiary is relatively unique, being an SME connected to a BME housing association. UE also provides access to an innovation hub, enabling people to launch and develop their business ventures.

Adrian Green, Manager of UE, emphasised the organisation's mission to support and enable people living in BME communities to start up their own sustainable businesses. This mission is reflected in the organisation's 25-year history, as it celebrates its silver anniversary this year.

Cedric Boston, Chief Executive of Unity Homes and Enterprise, expressed pride and delight over the recognition from the Northern Housing Awards for the organisation's efforts. He stated that it was a significant achievement to be shortlisted for two awards.

The winners of this year's Northern Housing Awards will be announced on Thursday 1st May at a ceremony held at The Point in Old Trafford, Manchester. Other notable nominees include Manningham Housing Association, another West Yorkshire housing provider that was hailed in a number of categories at this year's awards.

Unity Homes and Enterprise's commitment to maintaining high standards in all areas of activity, with customer services as a top priority, has earned it a reputation as a leader in the housing sector. Its nominations at the Northern Housing Awards indicate that it is considered a leader in customer experience and as a thriving SME in the housing sector.

Despite the Government's target to deliver 1.5 million homes being a distant memory, organisations like Unity Homes and Enterprise continue to make a difference in their local communities, providing affordable and culturally sensitive housing solutions and fostering community development, especially relevant in minority ethnic communities.
