According to the survey, 34% of pet owners are interested in devices that automatically pick up pet waste, while 29% are hoping for technology that can help reduce a pet's anxiety. An intriguing 26% of pet owners have expressed a desire for pet beds that adjust temperature based on the pet’s feelings, and 14% are keen on smart home appliances controlled by pet sounds (barks and meows).
Perhaps most notably, 40% of pet owners have expressed a desire for technology that can translate barks and meows into human language. This suggests a strong interest in enhancing communication with pets.
Sarah Page-Jones, head of veterinary compliance at Pet Drugs Online, discussed the future of pet care. She stated that pet owners are eager for more innovation, particularly in pet health. She also suggested the possibility of AI pet-sitters in the future.
When asked about their pets, if given the chance, 20% of pet parents would ask their pets about their physical health, and 17% would check in about their happiness. These results underscore the importance of pet wellbeing to their owners.
Moreover, 13% of the surveyed pet parents have expressed a hope for public transport specifically designed for pets and their owners. This indicates a growing interest in making pet care more convenient and accessible.
Sarah Page-Jones also predicted that pets' mental health will become a priority for owners, as it has for humans. She did not mention any specific new technologies or products in the future of pet care, but did imply a shift in focus towards pets' mental health.
