Little Hands, Big Ideas: Kids Redesign Wallufer Platz in Rheingau
Planners Consider Children's Preferred Future Location at Wallufer Platz
Get ready for a change at Wallufer Platz! The kids from the Kita Sternenzelt after-school program in Rheingau are stepping up to the planning table, ready to fill the square with their vision. From water wheels and climbing rocks to ping-pong tables and shaded benches, these young urban planners are making their mark.
Months ago, they painted, crafted, and shared their dreams for the Platz. On the participation day, two designs were presented for discussion - each boasting climbing structures, plenty of greenery, and ample space for fun and relaxation.
A little girl with braids points at the plan, "Here - I want a water wheel." The planner listens, jotting down notes. Around 40 children have come, eager to see their ideas come to life. A boy inquires if the climbing tower could slide all the way down, while another wonders about shaded benches.
Lively discussions ensued, with children voting using colorful sticky dots. Many felt heard, with one boy exclaiming, "They really listen to us!"
The old playground served as a bittersweet farewell, with feelings of departure mixed with anticipation. "I'm already looking forward to when it's all done," a girl shared. Construction is set to begin in spring 2026.
As the dust settles, Wallufer Platz remains a symbol of engaged participation. "Your ideas matter," the local government seems to say, and this project in the Rheingau district proves it.
