Pillow Test Finds Allergenic Fabrics and Wash Issues in Half of Samples

Consumer magazine 'Öko-Test' has raised concerns about health-hazardous substances in pillow materials. A recent speed test revealed that nearly half of the 20 pillows examined contained allergenic fabrics. Moreover, many did not withstand washing, leading to changes in volume and support.

Eleven pillows received an overall 'Good' rating, but not all were free from harmful substances. 'Öko-Test' warns that regular cleaning is crucial, especially for allergy sufferers, to remove dust mites that feed on shed skin cells. However, four pillows significantly flattened during the wash test, losing their supportive qualities.

The quality of a pillow does not always correlate with its price. One of the top-scoring pillows came from a discount store. A good pillow should have safe materials, be easy to care for, and withstand washing to ensure long-term hygiene and comfort. It should also support the neck and shoulders, preventing tension and back pain.

Consumers should be cautious when choosing pillows, as many contain allergenic fabrics and do not withstand washing. Regular cleaning is essential, especially for allergy sufferers. Despite the importance of quality, high-priced pillows are not always the best option. 'Öko-Test' advises consumers to consider safety, durability, and support when selecting a pillow.
