Schutzendirektion's Annual Festival: A Wet but Successful Celebration
The Schutzendirektion's annual festival took place on a rainy Monday morning this year, despite the weather forecast predicting rain during the procession. Rainer Fuchs, the chairman of the Schutzendirektion, described his feelings as "happy and satisfied" after the event.
The festival offered a diverse range of activities, including historical parades, musical performances, and various events in the beer tent. However, the weather was a particular challenge during the festival, leaving some participants and spectators wet. Despite this, none of the ticketed events had to be canceled.
One of the highlights for Rainer Fuchs was the emotional peak when the Royal Sulgemer Crown Swamp Pipers played with the city orchestra. Another personal highlight was the historical festival parades on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The new Railway group had a rather empty float in the historical procession, with only a piece of track and tools on the vehicle. This issue will be discussed with the city administration.
The Schutzendirektion is concerned about the Gigelberg redesign, especially the water-bound floor covering in a partial area next to the Gigelberg hall. They are planning to introduce gastronomic sales stands in the Old Town area as part of the redesign, aiming to enhance the atmosphere and visitor experience by providing food and beverage options integrated into the redesigned public space.
Michael Mutschler has taken over the role of the previous deputy chairman Guido Mebold this year. The current Schuetzen theater leadership, Mimi Joerg and Sandra Binder, have decided to step down in 2025. Yvonne von Borstel will lead the Schuetzen theater interimly in 2026, and a new leadership (Carolin Bock and Tom Talaj) will take over in 2027.
Rainer Fuchs also addressed the increasing wild growth of gastronomic sales stands in the Old Town, which is a concern for the Schutzendirektion. The traditional Schuetzen bus service will not return, and efforts are being made to integrate it into regular public transport. The Schuetzen bus network optimization discussions will take place with neighboring municipalities and the district office in September.
After Schuetzen 2026, Rainer Fuchs will step down as chairman, and the elections for his successor have already taken place. The announcement of the new chairman will be made in the fall. The festival site and beer tent were referred to as a "problem child" by Rainer Fuchs, but initial feedback has been positive.
Rainer Fuchs thanked all those involved and helpers who prepared for the festival. Despite the rainy weather, the Schutzendirektion's annual festival was a successful celebration, bringing together the community and offering a diverse range of activities.
During the Schutzendirektion's annual festival, rainy weather was a challenge for some participants and spectators, particularly in the outdoor market place where food vendors and home-and-garden displays were located. During the festivities, Rainer Fuchs, the chairman of the Schutzendirektion, appreciated the wide range of activities, including the roofed beer tent where lifestyle choices were on display, making it an ideal place for finding enjoyment amidst the wet weather.
