New sports facilities and playground installed at the primary school in the vibrant Flower District of Pankow
Newly Renovated Play and Sports Area Opens at Flower District Elementary School
The Flower District Elementary School in Pankow has unveiled its newly renovated play and sports area, following a comprehensive renovation project that spanned several years.
The renovation, which was completed this month, was a collaborative effort between the school and sports office of Pankow, district representatives, and various participating offices. Jörn Pasternack, the District Councilor for School, Sports, and Facility Management, played a significant role in the project's successful completion.
The sports field, which had been closed for extended periods due to its deteriorated condition since 2020, now boasts a new surface that offers protection for the children and boasts an appealing look. The playing field's renovation included new windows, a renewed roof, renovated interior rooms, and a freshly painted facade.
The sports hall, a three-field construction made of prefabricated materials, also underwent significant changes. It now features a large window front, barrier-free access, and a stacked changing area. Sustainable electricity is provided by a photovoltaic system installed during the renovation.
The school's renovations over the years have aimed to improve both its learning environment and sports facilities. The teaching concept of the elementary school is based on Maria Montessori's philosophy, promoting self-determined learning, free teaching, age-crossing groups, and grading starting in the fifth grade.
The newly renovated sports hall is not only available for school use but also for local sports clubs. The sports area offers a modern facility that combines safety with attractive sports and movement opportunities, making it a valuable addition to the community.
The school was built as a prefabricated building in the 1970s and underwent its first comprehensive renovation in 2004 and 2005. The planned renovation progressed slowly due to a lack of financial and human resources. However, the recent renovations have breathed new life into the school, providing a much-needed upgrade to its facilities.
The district councilor for school, sports, and facility management, Joern Pasternack, and the school and sports office of Pankow advocated for the renovation of the open space. Their efforts have paid off, and the Flower District Elementary School now boasts a state-of-the-art play and sports area that will serve the community for years to come.
