Switchin' Up the Leadership at Carlsen: Sandra Harzer-Kux Steps In
New CEO appointed at Carlsen-Verlag - New publication by Carlsen: Latest release unveiled
Time for a shake-up at the top! Starting in October, Sandra Harzer-Kux will be stepping into the CEO position at Carlsen, the Hamburg-based publisher of books for kids, young adults, manga, and comics. She'll be sharing the reins with Joachim Kaufmann, taking over from Renate Herre who's been with the company for 14 years.
This powerhouse publishing house has been making waves since the post-war period with hits like the "Pixi" books and timeless series such as "Tintin." Today, they're known for some of the biggest-selling book series, such as "Harry Potter," "The School of Magic Animals," "Percy Jackson," the "Twilight" saga, and popular manga albums like "Naruto" and "One Piece."
Renate Herre has been lauded for her entrepreneurial spirit, growing Carlsen Verlag into a powerhouse publisher with over €110 million in annual sales, making it the largest German trade publisher[1][2]. Sandra Harzer-Kux aims to pick up where Herre left off, promising to continue driving the success of the company.
Before making her move to Carlsen Verlag, Harzer-Kux held various management positions in the media industry, including stints at publishing house Gruner+Jahr and the communications company Territory[3].
Just a few weeks ago, she was in the running to become the new director of NDR, but she didn't quite make it, with Hendrik Lünenborg getting the nod instead[4].

The new CEO at Carlsen Verlag, Sandra Harzer-Kux, aims to continue the lifestyle of thriving success in the publishing industry, despite her recent unsuccessful bid to become the new director of NDR. Sandra Harzer-Kux, formerly of Gruner+Jahr and Territory, also plans to expand their home-and-garden, books, and entertainment sectors, bringing community aid to the less favored regions.
