Soaking Up Fun Again: "Miramar" Water Park Sets Mid-June Return After Major Damage
Water Park in Miramar to Commence Operations Mid-June Following Fire Incident - Miramar's scheduled opening postponed to mid-June.
Get ready to splash and slide again! The much-loved "Miramar" water park in Weinheim, Rhein-Neckar district is finally making a comeback, rescheduling its reopening to mid-June. After initial plans for a spring comeback, a series of setbacks have forced the team to push back the date[1].
The unforeseen calamity back in December '24 sparked damages estimated now to be over 20 million euros, a sharp contrast to the initial 10 million euro estimate. The fire caused significant destruction, affecting the water park, the salt and crystal therapy area, and even the changing rooms and sanitary facilities[2]. Preliminary investigations attributed the fire to a technological glitch[1].
Upon reopening, only the water park and sauna area will be accessible, with the Kristall-Therme, originally targeted for December reopening, joining the fun later in the year[1]. To accommodate these repairs and incorporate some modern tweaks, the operators have invested an additional 1.8 million euros in refurbishing the slide tower and other attractions[2].
Initially, the management had hoped to speed along the recovery process, but the full extent of the devastation was underestimated. "We initially planned to reopen much sooner, but unexpected damages to the changing rooms and facilities required more extensive repairs," explained Managing Director Lara Steinhart[2].
This unexpected mishap has significantly boosted the repair costs, now standing at 20 million euros[2]. The previously discussed need for complete roof replacement is just one part of the repair process[2].
Though the closure has impacted the park's finances, causing revenue losses of around 9 million euros, no employees have been let go[2]. With close to 130 permanent positions and additional temporary workers, the team remains intact and eager for the grand reopening.
On a typical year, "Miramar" has attracted an estimated 700,000 visitors[2]. In addition to the sauna area and the water park brimming with countless slides, the park boasts an outdoor area with a sandy beach by a lake. Post-reopening, parkgoers can enjoy the redesign of attractions without facing increased ticket prices[2].
So mark your calendars! June 16, 2025, is the day you can ditch the stay-at-home blues and dive back into fun at the "Miramar" water park once more[1].
