Military leaders double their reason to celebrate
Celebrations Galore at the 100th Shooting Festival of "Vorm Clever Tor"
The shooting club "Vorm Clever Tor" in Wesel is gearing up for a grand celebration this August, marking the 100th anniversary of their shooting festival. Despite the cancellation of the centenary celebrations due to the ongoing Corona pandemic, the festival will push through, with the event set to commence on Friday, August 8th.
The festival will feature a variety of activities, including a parade at Dorotheenplatz, a grand military tattoo, and a memorial and remembrance ceremony. The parade, a traditional event that hasn't been held in a while, is expected to bring a sense of nostalgia to the festivities.
King Pair Friedhelm and Marianne Grasshoff will be participating in the festival, lending their support and presence to the celebrations. The drum corps of the shooting club will give a wake-up call at 7 am on Sunday, signalling the start of the second day of the festival.
The competition for the royal title and succession of Friedhelm Grasshoff will begin at 5 pm on Sunday, followed by the coronation, scheduled for around 8:30 pm. The shooters will visit the St. Lukas old people's home at 3 pm on Sunday, before setting off on a march to the festival site at an unspecified time.
Admission to the shooting festival is free on all days, making it an accessible event for everyone. The festivities will conclude with a cosy evening by DJ Roland Loges, who will set the mood after the grand military tattoo.
The shooting festival is not just about celebrations, however. It's also a time for remembrance and honour. A memorial and remembrance ceremony will take place during the event, paying tribute to the club's history and its members.
The traditional gathering at the Feldmarker Eck will start the shooting festival, marking the official beginning of the celebrations. The drum corps of the shooting club is also celebrating its 105th birthday, adding another layer of excitement to the festivities.
Despite the challenges posed by the Corona pandemic, the shooting club "Vorm Clever Tor" is determined to make this year's festival a memorable one. So, mark your calendars for August 8th and join in the celebrations!
- In an effort to add a touch of home and garden charm to the celebrations, the shooting club "Vorm Clever Tor" plans to decorate Dorotheenplatz with vibrant flowers and greenery for the parade.
- To commemorate the festival's centenary, the shooting club has collaborated with local artisans to create a unique lifestyle exhibit, showcasing traditional Wesel crafts and heritage at the festival venue.
