Get ready for a magical weekend filled with games, fun, and medieval magic as the Ebersburg castle near Herrmannsacker in the Nordhausen district opens its gates for a castle festival on August 16th and 17th, 2025.

Organised by the Association for Living History, this event promises to be an unforgettable experience for young knights, brave ladies, and curious adventurers alike. The castle will become a large adventure playground, offering a variety of activities for children and parents.

The festival admission is just two euros, making it an affordable family outing. The historic castle ruins will open their gates on Saturday from 2 pm to 8 pm and on Sunday from 11 am to 6 pm.

Merchandise available for purchase includes knight's armor, maiden's crowns, dragons, and teddy bears. Archery, sack races, nut cracking, and more games are part of the festival, ensuring plenty of entertainment for all.

A special highlight on Saturday is a visit from ferrets. Several funny games for children and parents are also available at the site. A royal camp with colourful tents adds to the medieval atmosphere.

Food offerings include juicy steaks, grilled sausages, homemade cakes or cupcakes, and a variety of drinks. Herbalists share their knowledge and invite participation at the festival.

Please note that the children's play and monument day in September has been cancelled due to scheduling conflicts. The castle festival serves as a substitute for the cancelled city festival.

Donations for the maintenance of the castle are welcome. For precise information on this specific festival, we recommend checking the official Nordhausen district or Ebersburg tourism websites or event calendars closer to the date.

Hannelore Müller from the Association for Living History explains the cancellation of events, stating that the focus is on ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all attendees.

So, mark your calendars and get ready for a weekend of medieval magic at Ebersburg castle!

Immerse yourself in an enchanting weekend of medieval magic with the family. Alongside the castle festival, experience the blend of home-and-garden items for sale, such as knight's armor, maiden's crowns, and teddy bears, while enjoying outdoor-living activities like archery and nut cracking.
