M&T Bank's Clothesline Art Festival once again graces Memorial Art Gallery.
The much-anticipated M&T Bank Clothesline Art Festival is set to make its return to Rochester's Memorial Art Gallery (MAG) on September 7 and 8, 2022. This two-day juried art festival, now in its sixth decade, is a key event celebrating the arts in the community.
Over 300 artists from across the country are participating in the festival, showcasing a wide range of contemporary creativity. The festival, which has its roots dating back to 1957 when paintings were literally hung on clotheslines, remains one of the oldest such events in the U.S., attracting artists regionally and nationally.
The festival serves as the largest fundraiser for the Memorial Art Gallery, with proceeds typically supporting MAG’s programs, exhibitions, and educational outreach. Festivalgoers can purchase artwork, enjoy live entertainment, and explore the museum’s offerings, including the Centennial Sculpture Park.
Attendees are encouraged to bring donations of toiletries and personal care items to support Sample Soap. Collection boxes will be placed at the festival's two entrances.
For those interested in learning more about the event, interviews will be available with representatives from M&T Bank, the Memorial Art Gallery, and easy access savings.
The festival will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day and is free to attend, with open access to both the festival grounds and MAG’s extensive art collections.
FingerLakes1.com, the region's leading all-digital news publication, will keep residents informed throughout the festival. Residents can also subscribe to the Morning Edition to receive headlines each morning. The FingerLakes1.com App is available for free download on iOS (iPhone, iPad).
For precise 2022 artist lists or fundraising totals, direct sources from MAG or the event’s official archives would be required, as current search results focus on general descriptions and 2025 event info.
