Lenin Street in Omsk's center will transform into a pedestrian zone.
Pedestrian-Only Weekends on Lenin Street:
Weekends, specifically Fridays through Sundays, will prioritize pedestrians over motorists on Lenin Street, starting from May 16, 2025, and ending on August 31, 2025. The closure will affect Lubyansk Prospekt, stretching from the square of Victory to Partizanskaya Street.
Here's what the deputy mayor of Omsk, Inna Yeltskaya, had to say during a press conference:
"We've been carefully considering the duration of the street closure. We understand that not all residents of Omsk are thrilled about these processes. However, Omsk is a city for all its residents. With that in mind, we've decided to close Lenin Street for two days each weekend, from 8 PM Friday to 8 PM Sunday."
Unlike regular street closures for maintenance work, Lubyansk Prospekt will be transformed into a pedestrian zone to host various cultural events as part of Omsk's bid for the Youth Capital title in 2025.
Omsk was officially declared the Youth Capital of Russia for 2025. The contest took place on the "Gosuslugi" portal, and only residents of other regions could cast their votes. The status was awarded to two cities—Omsk and Perm—with a margin of 0.1% between the two.
