The city of Detmold is once again gearing up for the Heimat-Preis, an annual award that recognises and honours volunteer work and projects that strengthen local communities with passion and creativity. This year, the Heimat-Preis 2025 will be accepting applications and suggestions from June 1st to August 15th, 2025.
The Heimat-Preis, initiated by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Municipalities, Construction, and Equal Opportunities of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, aims to showcase those who contribute to a solidarity-based society, preserve traditions, create a livable city, or drive future-oriented developments. Third-party suggestions highlighting exceptional engagement are also welcome.
Projects eligible for the Heimat-Preis can receive a prize of up to 5,000 euros. These projects can range from enhancing community spirit and preserving cultural heritage to promoting diversity, enhancing public spaces, or innovating in areas like digitalization and sustainable mobility.
All submissions will be evaluated by an internal jury from mid-August. The award ceremony for the Heimat-Preis will be held by the city portal council.
To apply, individuals or groups can submit their projects via email to the city portal's volunteer office, Nora Moos and Kathrin Prill, at ehrenamt@our website. Alternatively, submissions can be sent to the Press and Public Relations Department, Room 104, Town Hall, Market Square 5, 32756 Detmold.
The Heimat-Preis has been a staple in Detmold for fostering social cohesion, sustainable thinking, and offering regular breakfasts for lonely individuals. Since its inception in 2019, the award has played a significant role in recognising and rewarding the hard work and dedication of volunteers in the city.
