Latin American culture showcased at Dortmund's Dietrich-Keuning-House through ¡VIVA! Festival celebration

The 2024 ¡VIVA! Festival is set to bring a vibrant celebration of Latin American culture to Dortmund, Germany, from September 5 to September 7. This year, Bolivia is the guest country, showcasing music, dance, art, and culinary specialties from 13 South American countries.

On the first day, festival-goers can attend a screening of the Bolivian film "Utama. A Life with Dignity," a poignant story following an elderly Quechua couple in Bolivia's highlands, affected by water scarcity and climate change. The film screening will be followed by a panel discussion, providing valuable insights into the film and its themes. The Friends of Bolivia Rhein & Ruhr Amigos de Bolivia e.V. will present this special night of Bolivian culture on September 6.

The following day, an open-air festival takes place, with doors opening at 6 PM and the event beginning at 7 PM. Tickets for the open-air festival are 5 euros in advance and 10 euros at the box office. Visitors can enjoy a diverse program over several hours, including workshops, children's activities, and information and artisanal craft stands. The stage program runs from 2 PM to 8 PM, and the children's program runs from 3 PM to 6 PM, ending with a piñata.

The festival's highlight is the evening, featuring dance and music performances, an exhibition of traditional costumes, Bolivian food, and artisanal crafts. A dance party with a DJ follows the main event, ensuring a lively and entertaining conclusion to the day.

Admission to the film screening is free, and tickets for the Bolivian evening are 6 euros at the box office. The film screening and panel discussion occur on September 5, 2024, at the Dietrich-Keuning-Haus, with doors opening at 6 PM and the screening starting at 6:30 PM.

Throughout the festival, visitors will have the opportunity to learn about Bolivia's history and cultural heritage through lectures and exhibitions. The 2024 ¡VIVA! Festival offers a unique and immersive experience, inviting visitors to explore the rich tapestry of Latin American culture.
