In Giesing, a well-known local pub now produces its own beer in-house.

In the heart of Munich's Giesing district, a beloved neighbourhood tavern known as the Giesings Living Room (Giesings Wohnzimmer) is set to introduce a new Helles-style beer, Schau-ma-moi-Helle. This classic pale lager, crafted in collaboration with the Brewsli brewery, will be available for the first pour from a wooden barrel on Thursday.

The tavern, which has been a popular gathering place near Grünwalder Stadium for over 25 years, was previously run by Gabi Benkert. After her passing last year, her sons Samuel Kreitmeier (35), Lukas Benkert (30), and Oskar Benkert (25) took over the reins.

The brothers aim to keep the tavern's core concept while infusing their own ideas. The tavern appeals to all generations, with many regular customers, and will continue to function as a café during the day and a tavern in the evenings. Beer garden concerts will also continue to be a part of the tavern's offerings.

Oskar Benkert, the youngest son, is a trained brewer and has brewed beer privately, including for his brother Samuel's wedding. The new Schau-ma-moi-Helle beer will be priced at two euros initially, and the brothers plan to keep it under five euros.

The official name for the beer is still undecided, but the brothers are excited about the prospects of their new venture. They are also planning to open their own brewery in the future, but have yet to find suitable premises.

Lukas Benkert, one of the brothers, has made it clear that right-wing extremists are not welcome in the left-leaning bar. The tavern recently added a draft beer system, previously only bottled beer was sold.

From Friday, the new Schau-ma-moi-Helle beer will be available fresh from the tap. The brothers are also looking forward to hosting more readings in the future at the tavern.
