Hostile goodbyes in Erfurt!

In a melancholic turn of events, a cherished institution in Erfurt, the traditional butcher shop "Hering," has bid adieu, leaving a void in the hearts of its patrons. After years of illuminating the Boyneburgufer, the shop's lights have been switched off for good, plunging Erfurters into a wave of nostalgia. The shop was a sentimental fixture for many, a symbol of their childhood, now slowly fading away. The closure of "Hering" has sent ripples of sadness through the city.

The intimate butcher shop closed its doors at the start of May due to staffing issues, as per a notice in the shop window. The announcement has struck a chord with the residents, with expressions of sympathy flooding an Erfurt Facebook group. Comments such as "So sad," "Very sad," and reminiscences of the shop being an "honest craft" disappearing, have been a common theme. One user lamented, "It's sad to see an Honest craft like this disappearing, and customers turning their money over to big corporations," while another bemoaned, "Everything's going downhill, really bad." A third user remarked, "Well, young people are eating less meat, and those who still do can't afford to keep it as a premium product. Times are changing."

Although the news might seem grim, Erfurters can find solace in the knowledge that they can still obtain their favorite products from other locations. The "Hering" team has announced that they can be found at their main shop in Kerpsleben, on the Domplatz, and at the Rieht and Roten Berg shops.

Though the traditional butcher shop "Hering" may have entered its twilight, its legacy will continue to linger in the memories of those it touched. For many, the shop was more than just a place to buy meat; it was a beacon of tradition, a provider of nostalgic comfort, and a symbol of the good old days. Farewell, "Hering," and thank you for the memories.
