Holiday Domestic Tour 2014

In the heart of the holiday season, balancing decoration and family time can be a challenge. However, one author has found a way to make it work, providing a fascinating case study for others.

The author's dining room, a hub of activity throughout the day, is adorned with festive decorations. Poinsettias and little fir's grace the table, where the author will serve Christmas Breakfast. Above the microwave, a little wreath with a candy cane heart adds a touch of holiday cheer. And this year, the Christmas Tree finds its home in the dining room, where the kids will gather to open their presents.

The author's love for deer-themed decorations is evident in their collection of salt and pepper shakers and a basket, both from Better Homes and Gardens. The dining room also boasts items from the Better Homes and Gardens Live Better Line, some of which are yet to be put up due to their cuteness.

However, the author's kitchen and dining room aren't always as festive. School papers and coffee cups often cover the surfaces, and a weeks' worth of dirty clothes can be found piled up in the basement and at the end of their bed. Despite this, the author manages to keep their space clean enough for a photograph, albeit temporarily.

The author's creative approach to the holiday season extends beyond decoration. They involve their family in various screen-free activities, such as baking and decorating Christmas cookies, building gingerbread houses, and crafting paper snowflakes, wreaths, DIY candles, or popcorn garlands. These activities not only add to the holiday decor but also foster meaningful family bonding.

This year, the author has only decorated the mantel in their living room. However, they have more projects and recipes to share in the future, promising to continue their creative and family-oriented approach to the holiday season.

The author's interior-design choices in their home-and-garden, especially in the dining room, reflect a festive lifestyle during the holiday season, with a diverse range of decorations from Better Homes and Gardens. Beyond simply adorning their space, the author encourages lifestyle activities with their family, such as crafting DIY candles and popcorn garlands, making their home a creative and cozy holiday haven.
