Guided Stroll along Big Goose Creek on August 12th
Sheridan Community Land Trust's Explore History: Big Goose Creek Walking Tours
Discover the rich human and natural history of Sheridan's downtown waterway with the Sheridan Community Land Trust's (SCLT) Explore History walking tours.
Taking place on Tuesday, August 12 at 10:00 a.m. and again on Tuesday, August 19 at 10:30 a.m., these tours will reveal how Big Goose Creek has been a lifeblood for Sheridan, shaping its history from Indigenous times to the present.
Meet at The Hub on Smith, located at 211 Smith Street in Sheridan, for both hikes. Participants are encouraged to dress for the weather and bring water for the leisurely 0.75-mile walking tour.
The tour stops include the Big Goose Creek Buffalo Jump, Sheridan Brewery, Sheridan Manufacturing Company Flour Mill, the Mandel Cabin, and the story of the historic rerouting of the creek.
SCLT Explore History events are free to attend and open to all. For more information, visit sheridanclt.org/events.
In September, SCLT will welcome Museum at the Bighorns Director, Carrie Ida Edinger, for Artifacts of the Big Goose Creek Walking Tour.
Big Goose Creek, along with Little Goose Creek and Goose Creek, is part of a larger revitalization project aimed at restoring natural waterways and enhancing downtown Sheridan with trails, terraces, and green spaces. This creek revival is considered a transformational effort for the city, aiming to reconnect the community with its natural heritage and create a vibrant outdoor space.
Join SCLT for an interpretive journey into how Big Goose Creek has shaped Sheridan's history and continues to play a significant role in the community’s resilience and cultural identity.
Experience the transformation of Sheridan's downtown by exploring the revitalized Big Goose Creek, a part of the larger outdoor-living project, during SCLT's Explore History walking tours. After the tours, look forward to understanding the role of Big Goose Creek in shaping the lifestyle and home-and-garden aesthetics of the community with Carrie Ida Edinger's Artifacts of the Big Goose Creek Walking Tour in September.
