Göttingen Police Wraps Successful Biker Safety Tours
The Göttingen Police Directorate has successfully concluded its initial Motorcycle Safety Tours, a unique initiative aimed at enhancing motorcycle safety in the region. The tours, led by police officers, culminated in a motorcycle safety day in Osterode am Harz on Saturday, 21 June. The tours were part of a novel prevention concept, first implemented by the Hesse Police and uniquely adapted in Lower Saxony this year. They focused on navigating dangerous and accident-prone routes, raising awareness of hazardous areas, and emphasizing the importance of vehicle condition. The initiative was spearheaded by Polizeipräsidentin Tanja Wulff-Bruhn, head of the Göttingen Police Directorate. The tours were a hit among motorcyclists, with over 150 registrations received and all spots filled within a short period. Participants praised the events, which also included prevention actions like 'Coffee instead of knuckles' and a motorcycle safety day. The tours addressed a pressing issue in the region, with 11 fatalities and 153 severe injuries involving motorcyclists in 2024 alone. Residents in hotspot areas also benefited from reduced noise pollution due to the educational focus on vehicle modifications. The conclusion of the Biker Safety Tours saw the participation of Tanja Wulff-Bruhn and Dirk Fornoff, Vice President of the Hesse Police Presidium in Darmstadt. The Police Directorate of Göttingen hopes to establish these tours annually to prevent serious accidents and raise awareness among motorcyclists. The success of the inaugural tours suggests a positive future for this initiative in enhancing safety and fostering a more considerate motorcycle culture in the region.
