German Pumpkin Record Broken at Hofheim am Taunus Championship
A German record for the heaviest pumpkin was broken recently at the 'First Hessian Pumpkin Weighing Championship' in Hofheim am Taunus. The winning pumpkin, weighing 594 kilograms, fell short of the national record of 1,052 kilograms but was the heaviest at the event. The winner, a grower from Paulinenpflege Winnenden in Baden-Württemberg, received a prize of 500 euros and a gift basket worth over 100 euros.
The competition, organized by 'Paul's Farm', attracted both professional growers and institutions. The winning pumpkin, intended for seed extraction to grow a larger one next year, was not the heaviest globally. The Guinness World Record stands at 1,247 kilograms, held by an American. Despite not breaking the record, the winning pumpkin will be on display until October 31st, if the grower agrees. Botanically, pumpkins are classified as berries.
