In the picturesque town of Waiblingen, Thomas Renz has created a unique pin-up calendar for the year 2026, featuring animal models that are both stunning and significant. The models in this calendar are none other than rare breeds of sheep, living in the Sheep Wanderway, a five-kilometer-long path through orchards where visitors can observe these rare creatures.

The Sheep Wanderway, initiated by Christine Brencher in 2019, is not just a tourist attraction but also plays a crucial role in preserving the valuable habitat of orchards. It was awarded the Cultural Landscape Prize 2024 for its contributions.

The calendar, which is A2-sized, showcases the sheep in various poses, with a colour palette ranging from blossom white to caramel shades to dark brown and black. Each model is unique, with some having straight hair, others boasting wild curls. Some models may come close and want to cuddle, while others might even try to use the photographer as a scratching post.

What makes this calendar even more special is that all the animals depicted are at risk of extinction. About half of them reside in the Haldenbachtal valley. The sheep in the Sheep Wanderway are not kept for their wool or meat due to their lack of production. Instead, they contribute to the growth of flowers on the pastures, making the orchards more vibrant and beautiful.

Thomas Renz, a supporter of the Klimaneutral Waiblingen initiative, has grown fond of his models. He has also produced another calendar featuring old orchard trees, which was well received.

The Bookstore Taube in Waiblingen is selling this unique calendar, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Sheep Path Project. If you're looking for a one-of-a-kind addition to your collection, or simply want to support a worthy cause, this calendar is a must-have.

However, it's worth noting that the search results do not provide information on who co-founded the initiative "Klimaneutral Waiblingen." Despite this, it's clear that Thomas Renz's pin-up calendar is making a positive impact, both in terms of raising funds for the Sheep Path Project and in increasing awareness about the importance of preserving rare breeds of sheep and the environment.
