Former AOK Building in Hürth-Hermülheim Set for Eco-Friendly Demolition
The former AOK building in Hürth-Hermülheim is set for demolition, with work starting between late April and early May 2025. The city of Luxembourg's municipal government is overseeing the 'Lebensader Lux' urban development project, which aims to clear the site by the end of September 2025.
The demolition process will be carried out in a low-vibration manner, combining machinery and manual techniques. It will proceed floor by floor, from top to bottom, with utmost consideration for the environment and residents. Selected materials will be set aside for a research project in collaboration with RWTH Aachen.
Before demolition begins, a public auction will be held to sell remaining furniture and equipment. Potentially hazardous materials and recyclables will be disposed of professionally and separately. The goal is to leave the site completely clear by the end of September 2025.
Once cleared, the site will be transformed into a new building and a plaza. The plaza will feature a water feature, greenery, and high-quality seating areas, all part of the 'Lebensader Lux' project. No additional road closures are necessary beyond the existing closure of Luxemburger Straße.
The demolition of the former AOK building in Hürth-Hermülheim marks the beginning of the 'Lebensader Lux' project. The city aims to clear the site responsibly and transform it into a green, welcoming space by the end of September 2025.
