Neustadt an der Weinstraße is seeking additional state aid for the 2027 Landesgartenschau event to be held in the city.

Expanded Allocation of Funds Worth 5.4 Million Dollars for the State Flower Exhibition - Expanded budget of 5.4 million allocated for the upcoming regional horticultural exhibition

Rhineland-Palatinate provides an additional €5.4 million to Neustadt an der Weinstraße for the 2027 State Garden Show

The city of Neustadt an der Weinstraße will receive an overall funding of €23 million from the state of Rhineland-Palatinate for the 2027 State Garden Show. This additional financial support will help cover higher construction costs. The decision to provide extra funding was approved by the state’s cabinet.

Minister President Alexander Schweitzer (SPD) and Minister of Economics Daniela Schmitt (FDP) noted that the State Garden Show is a significant event for Neustadt an der Weinstraße. The event promises to significantly enhance the cityscape and the surrounding area, with long-term benefits for the entire region.

The State Garden Show is recognized as a recurring event in Rhineland-Palatinate, highlighting the region's natural beauty and horticultural achievements. Its purpose is to stimulate urban renewal, promote environmental awareness, and boost tourism. However, records of the event's history, including a comprehensive list of its previous locations, were not readily available in the search results.

The cancellation of the planned 2022 State Garden Show in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler occurred due to the severe floods that hit the area in 2021. This disaster caused devastating damage to the Ahr River, which runs through the city, compromising the necessary infrastructure and resources to host the event.

The additional funds to support the 2027 State Garden Show will come from the Interior Ministry (€2.38 million), Economics Ministry (€2.12 million), and Environment Ministry (€0.9 million). Before this, there have been four State Garden Shows in Rhineland-Palatinate, in Kaiserslautern (2000), Trier (2004), Bingen (2008), and Landau (2015).

The extra funds allocated for the 2027 State Garden Show in Neustadt an der Weinstraße, under the Community policy of Rhineland-Palatinate, will not only be used for higher construction costs but also for vocational training programs in home-and-garden, gardening, and horticulture, aiming to improve the local lifestyle and contribute to the region's long-term development. Post the event, these vocational training programs are expected to continue, thereby fostering a sustainable and vibrant community.
