Crank It Up in Preetz!
Prepare for a whirlwind day of pedal power and planet-friendly vibes at the "Bicycle and Environment Festival" in the heart of Preetz on May 18, 11 am-4 pm! This awesome event, organized by NABU, BUND, Kidical Mass Preetz, and the city of Preetz, promises a spectrum of action, family fun, and practical eco-education.
The festivities will commence with a one-hour bicycle parade through the city, starting from the intersection of Kirchenstraße and Markt at 10 am. The market square will be bustling with around 40 stands brimming with cycling essentials and insightful info on energy, environmental, and nutrition topics.
Antje Seebens-Hoyer, our organizer, reveals that Zweirad Hannss, Räderwerk, Küstenrad, Picocycles, and even Boo (with their bamboo bikes) will showcase an array of new E-bikes and various bike models. Carsharing and bike-sharing information will be provided by StattAuto and the Sprottenflotte, while the city's mobility management dives into bicycle and pedestrian traffic in Preetz.
For the first time, public transport providers will set up camp. erixx Holstein and NahSH will enlighten us on train travel with and without a bicycle, while the Kreis Plön public transport company focuses on promoting bus travel in Preetz and its surroundings. Visitors can explore a bus and even sit in the driver's seat!
regional food fanatics will appreciate the offerings at the stands of Hofbeet Gut Trenthorst (vegetable plots), SoLaWi Prisemut (solidarity agriculture), and Fraulein Bio (organic delivery service). Environmental associations like NABU, BUND, Aktionsforum PANK, and Theos Wiese will be present, along with local companies promoting photovoltaics and heat pumps.
Don't forget about the little ones! The event caters to families with a bouncy castle, an ADFC bicycle course, a Quattro-Bungee trampoline, storytime at the city library stand, and plenty more child-friendly activities. The "Wühlmäuse," "Jägerschaft," and "Omas gegen Rechts" will also be there, adding a creative twist to the fun.
At 12 pm, the bicycle race starts on Kirchenstraße, followed by jaw-dropping stunts by the Madness Brothers at 1 PM. At 1:30 PM, the Give-and-Take House will host an auction for a cause at the same location. The big event kicks off at 2 PM with the cargo bike race in Kirchenstraße, testing cycling skills, agility, and a touch of luck.
