Eco-friendly and Energy-saving Home Designs by VAB

In the heart of Düken, a transformative construction project is underway. The city of Dülken is building a new residential quarter at the junction of Lange Straße and Melcherstiege, revitalising an untended wasteland. The project, a package of sustainable construction and efficient technology, is spearheaded by municipal housing association VAB.

VAB is creating 19 publicly subsidised apartments and a new home for their Düken office within this new building. The residential quarter will consist of over 70 new apartments, offering a broad range of modern housing options to Düken.

The sustainable ethos of the project is evident in its design and construction principles. Following principles of circular economy, the construction aims to minimise waste and maximise reuse. Shell construction, reusable materials, an innovative infrared heating system, tenant electricity through solar panels, and a platform lift instead of a cabin lift are all features of this eco-friendly development.

In a statement, VAB's CEO, Albert Becker, highlighted that these aspects aim to combine higher sustainability with cost reduction. Becker emphasised that VAB has been working for years to improve environmental friendliness and sustainability in every new building.

This large-scale new construction project comes with a hefty investment, totalling a double-digit million figure. However, this is not VAB's first foray into sustainable housing. Previously, they invested around 4.5 million in the Kesselsturm.

To further enhance the project's sustainability, VAB plans to increase the use of wood in the construction. This commitment to sustainability forms part of VAB's broader goal of offering affordable and sustainable housing, even in challenging times.

Stephan Sillekens, VAB's supervisory board chairman, expressed his enthusiasm about the new residential quarter. He believes it will further boost residential development right next to the historic city centre, providing a harmonious blend of modern and traditional architecture.

A remarkable aspect of this project is that all apartments in the new residential quarter have already been rented out, with move-ins scheduled for November. The sustainable living concept has clearly resonated with the community, demonstrating the demand for eco-friendly housing solutions.

As Düken continues to grow, this new residential quarter will undoubtedly play a significant role in shaping the city's future, embodying the principles of sustainability, affordability, and efficiency.
