Dusseldorf: The Cultural and Literary Mile along Kö Street remains accessible until Monday's end
The much-anticipated 38th Bucherbummel on Düsseldorf’s Königsallee (Kö) is set to take place from Thursday, 5th June, to Monday, 9th June. This annual literary event promises a colourful mix of literature, art, music, and culture, with a focus on books, book signings, readings, and musical performances.
The event, which attracts booksellers, authors, and sometimes musicians, is known for its family-friendly atmosphere, featuring storytelling sessions, workshops, and other children's activities. However, for the most precise details about the 2025 Bucherbummel on Kö—such as exact dates, author line-ups, musical acts, and children’s programming—it is recommended to consult Düsseldorf’s official event calendars, local cultural websites, or the organizers of the Königsallee events directly.
Among the literary highlights this year are Mithu Sanyal, Jean Philippe Kindler, Horst Eckert, and Tobias Steindorf. Music lovers can enjoy indie, rockabilly, electro, or world music on the main stage from Saturday. The event also features ten musical acts, with over 60 musicians participating, and 75 artists in total.
Exhibitors present their goods or information in weatherproof tents, and there are stands set up by 16 publishers, eight antiquarian bookstores, and numerous cultural institutions, initiatives, and gastronomes over a distance of 600 meters. On the Girardet bridge opposite the Kö-Graben, a children's reading tent organized by the city library offers around 30 events, ranging from crafting to puppet theater.
In addition to the Bucherbummel, the "Lesehund" project continues to make strides. This initiative, which aims to expand to offer a free service for children and families outside of school, was awarded at the Bucherbummel. The LeseFörderPreis was presented to the project this year, and children's librarian Esther Körner from the district library in Wersten accepted it on behalf of the team.
Carla-Maria Maaß, a qualified occupational therapist, uses her expertise in her work with the therapy dog, Herr Meyer, as part of the "Lesehund" project. The duo has completed training as a "Human-Dog Team in Animal-Assisted Interventions".
The "Lesehund" project's success is a testament to the Bucherbummel's commitment to promoting literacy and fostering a love for reading among children and families. Despite the changeable weather, the opening of the Bucherbummel drew many interested people to the weatherproof sales stands. Whether you're a bookworm, a music lover, or simply looking for a fun family day out, the Bucherbummel on Kö promises an unforgettable experience.
- The Bucherbummel on Düsseldorf’s Königsallee also caters to lovers of fashion-and-beauty, food-and-drink, and home-and-garden, as various vendors offering goods related to these areas are present.
- Moreover, the event extends beyond literature and art, delving into education-and-self-development, providing opportunities for attendees to engage in workshops and discussions.
- For those looking for entertainment, the Bucherbummel offers live performances, including music, puppet theater, and more, ensuring a lively and enjoyable atmosphere throughout the event.
- Lastly, the success of the "Lesehund" project, which associates therapy dogs with reading for children, serves as a symbol of the Bucherbummel's broader mission to inspire and nurture a lifestyle centered on learning, reading, and exposure to diverse cultural experiences.
