Ruhrorter Hafenfest 2022: A Maritime Spectacle Celebrates Its 30th Anniversary

The Ruhrorter Hafenfest, Europe's largest inland port and a significant driver of economic and technological development, is gearing up for its 30th anniversary. From August 15th to 18th, Duisburg's harbor district will come alive with a maritime spectacle, traditional fish market, and live music performances.

Marcel Meyer, CEO of Rhenuas Port Logistics, has been named this year's patron, emphasizing his strong commitment to the location and its cultural and economic significance. The festival, which started as an idea in 1995 and is organized annually by the Ruhrorter Hafenfest Association, is made possible by sponsors predominantly from the harbor industry, with Duisburg Kontor investing a six-figure sum this year.

A drone show will be on display, following the success of a similar show at the recent Extraschicht. The festival's highlight, the fireworks display, will take place exclusively on the Friedrich-Ebert Bridge, which will be closed to traffic. A safety zone of 100 meters will be established and monitored by a security service.

The event will feature a Harbor Fair with various attractions and fairground rides, including a Hawaii Swing, Music Express, Break Dance, Heart Breaker, Disco Dance, Kesseltanz, Playball, and more. Food and drink are well-provided at the Harbor Fair and the fish market, ensuring the well-being of visitors.

Jasmin Wagner, better known by her stage name "Blümchen", will perform live on stage at the Ruhrorter Hafenfest on Sunday. Many passenger ships have announced their participation in the traditional ship parade. Harbor tours, visits to historical ships like the steamboat "Jan der Sterke", "Time is money", or the sailing ship "Helena" of Rotterdam's harbor, as well as the art and culture market on the Neumarkt and the Ruhrorter Hinterhof-Trödel on Sunday, August 17th, will be available for visitors.

Duisburger Hafen AG is back as a supporter of the Ruhrorter Hafenfest, viewing it as a duty and an honor, especially for the festival's anniversary. The phrase "Duisburg is the gateway to the world" is often heard in reference to the Port of Duisburg's importance.

Since the Düsseldorf Rhine carnival incident raised public safety concerns, it is likely that the Ruhrorter Hafenfest organizers would have reviewed and possibly reinforced their safety plans. However, no concrete details or official statements were found in the current search results. For accurate, up-to-date information about the 2022 event’s safety measures, checking official event websites or local government announcements would be necessary.

The Ruhrorter Hafenfest promises to be a memorable event, bringing together culture, history, and entertainment in Duisburg's bustling harbor district. Don't miss out on this maritime celebration!

[1] Search results primarily contained information about shipping traffic regulations on the Ruhr river and did not mention the Hafenfest or its safety protocols.

The Ruhrorter Hafenfest, despite its focus on maritime spectacle and cultural events, also shows a dedication to outdoor-living and home-and-garden aesthetics through the inclusion of attractions like the Hawaii Swing and fairground rides, as well as the provision of food and drink at the Harbor Fair and fish market. In line with this, the festival has secured sponsorship from the harbor industry, with Duisburg Kontor investing a significant sum this year.
