Development corporation affiliated with local council embarks on construction of eco-friendly residences
Wates Construction and This City Lead the Way in Sustainable Housing Development in Ancoats
In the heart of Manchester, a significant new development is taking shape, promising to promote a low-carbon, sustainable neighborhood. The Rodney Street development, led by Urban Splash and development organization This City, is being built by Wates Construction.
The development, situated in the vibrant area of Ancoats, will consist of over 120 new properties, including 118 apartments across two buildings and 10 town houses. Of the apartments, there will be 27 one-bed and 91 two-bed homes, while the town houses will offer eight three-bed and two four-bed homes. Each town house will also include off-street parking with electric vehicle charge points.
This City, a Manchester-based development organization, chose Ancoats for its potential for residents to walk, cycle, and access public transport, aligning with the company's commitment to creating sustainable communities. The development will also feature a significant amount of planting and new trees, further enhancing its eco-friendly credentials.
Wates Construction is not only responsible for the physical construction but also plays a crucial role in the community. The company invests £500,000 into local Voluntary Community and Social Enterprises, and helps encourage young people into the construction sector by providing 140 weeks' worth of work experience for students.
Cllr Gavin White, Manchester City Council's executive member for housing and development, has stated that this development exemplifies the vision of This City. He expressed his excitement about the Rodney Street development, saying it will create low carbon homes and affordable housing options in the city center.
The Rodney Street development continues the story of the area's 20-year regeneration journey. It will be complemented by quality green space and sustainable transport options, further contributing to the area's transformation into a thriving, eco-friendly community. The construction of over 120 low-CO2 buildings in Ancoats is a testament to the city's commitment to sustainable development and affordable housing.
