In the heart of Bucharest's historical Buzești-Berzei area, at the intersection of Calea Griviței and Atelierului Street, a cultural renaissance is underway. The iconic Cinema Marconi, a historic monument that has been in ruins for years, is set to be transformed into a vibrant cultural hub.

The revitalization project, spearheaded by ARCEN, was initiated in 2025 and is expected to be completed between 2029 and 2030. This comprehensive restoration aims to make Cinema Marconi a living space once again, preserving its historical significance while breathing new life into it.

Originally named Marconi when it opened in 1930, the cinema has a rich history. Over the years, it has been known as Cinema Dacia, but its original name will be restored as part of the revitalization project. The cinema will not only serve as a cinema but will also become a venue for concert and conference halls, an exhibition space, a hub for emerging artists, an open-air terrace for film screenings, a café, and a restaurant.

The president and founder of ARCEN, Edmond Niculușcă, has stated that the restoration of Cinema Marconi will be a long and challenging process. However, he is confident that it will be a significant cultural endeavour. The restoration will not be funded solely by the state or a private individual but by mobilizing an entire community.

The first phase of securing the building is scheduled to begin this summer, with the event organized by ARCEN presenting the project to transform Cinema Marconi into a cultural venue. The completion of the entire project is expected by 2030, with a video mapping show scheduled for this Friday, July 25, at Cinema Marconi in Bucharest.

As the revitalization project progresses, Cinema Marconi is set to become a renewed hub in Bucharest’s cultural scene, offering a diverse range of cultural experiences for all.

In keeping with the restoration project, Cinema Marconi, once completed, will not only serve as a cinema but will also transform into a home-and-garden for various cultural pursuits, encompassing a venue for concerts, conferences, exhibitions, an artist hub, an open-air terrace, café, and restaurant, thereby significantly elevating Bucharest's lifestyle scene. The preservation and enhancement of Cinema Marconi will be a collective effort, mobilizing the community's support, as envisioned by ARCEN's founder, Edmond Niculușcă.
