The Children's Protection Association in Düsseldorf has announced a new training program for Youth Advising Youth (Number against Sorrow) counselors. This nationwide, easily accessible, free, and anonymous counseling service has proven to be increasingly important, especially during challenging times such as the pandemic.

The training program, which commences on November 21/22 at a youth hostel in Bad Münstereifel, will span over 7 weekends (one per month) and a final weekend. The total duration is 70 hours.

Training topics will cover a wide range of issues that youth counselors may encounter, including basics of communication, performance pressure, bullying at school, problems with parents, sexuality and partnerships, experiences with violence and abuse, eating and drug addiction, grief, and illness.

Youth counselors between the ages of 16 and 23 are eligible to participate in the training. The Düsseldorf branch of the Children's Protection Association currently offers counseling conversations with 27 specially trained volunteers.

Future Youth Advising Youth counselors will receive comprehensive, intensive training under the guidance of experienced counselors and visits to facilities like Pro Familia or the Child Protection Ambulance.

The training costs 75 euros. Registration for the information evening about the training, scheduled for Monday, November 9, at 6:30 PM, is required via [email protected].

Since 1994, there has been the special offer "Youth Advising Youth" nationwide. The Children's Protection Association Düsseldorf is one of 89 local carriers of the nationwide "Number against Sorrow". Bernhard Müller-Hildebrand is the coordinator for the Children and Youth Telephone in Düsseldorf.
