Contemporary Butter Festival resurfaces in Castelli Romani region

The 8th edition of the "Festa del Buttero Contemporaneo" is set to take place on September 27th and 28th at the Parco dei Castelli Romani, promising a cultural extravaganza dedicated to equestrian and rural traditions, biodiversity, social inclusion, and sustainable tourism.

Organised by the Social Promotion Association Equiazione and the organisation behind the "Buttero Contemporaneo" project, La Tosa, this event is a testament to Lazio's rich history and symbolic association with the Butteri, the horse-riding herdsmen.

The theme for this year's festival is the "exotic of proximity", a celebration of the unique and traditional aspects of our local culture. The equestrian tradition, with roots in Etruscan and Medieval history, will be centre stage, with numerous and varied activities planned.

One of the highlights of the event will be the equestrian shows by "Buttero Contemporaneo", "Cavalieri di Maremma", "Cuor di Maremma" with Federico Forci, and Manuele Baffetti. Visitors can also expect a vibrant atmosphere filled with local crafts, product stands, traditional music, and the Regional Terra Market of Slow Food Lazio.

This market will feature culinary proposals cooked in collaboration with Slow Food Association Frascati and Terre Tuscolane, Slow Food Latina, and the Velletri-Genzano section. It's a chance to savour the quality food culture that Transhumance, a living root of our lands, is seen as a key to a sustainable future.

The event is not just about entertainment and food. It's also about education and awareness. Europe's equine biodiversity, significant in the equestrian tradition, will be highlighted, emphasising the importance of preserving and promoting this rich heritage.

The "Festa del Buttero Contemporaneo" is more than just a festival; it's a commitment to building inclusive and resilient communities through intertwining people, horses, history. The event is organised with the contribution of the Regione Lazio, the patronage of the Comune di Velletri, and the Parco Regionale dei Castelli Romani.

A historical fact that adds to the allure of the festival is the tale of Augusto Imperiali, a well-known buttero from Cisterna Latina, who allegedly defeated Buffalo Bill, a famous cowboy, during his stay in the Pontine area in 1890.

Admission to the event is free, making it an accessible and enjoyable experience for all. Whether you're a history buff, a food lover, or simply someone who appreciates tradition and culture, the 8th edition of the "Festa del Buttero Contemporaneo" promises to be an unforgettable event.
