Special Mintings Introduced to the Benrather Schloss Collection

In a unique collaboration, the European Mint Company "EuroMint" has created a limited series of special mintings for the Schloss and Park Benrath Foundation. These special coins, available in fine silver and fine gold, have been integrated into the Benrather Schloss collection.

The design of the mintings showcases the main building of Schloss Benrath on one side and the pond and the further building arrangement of the complex on the other. The fine silver variant of the minting costs 69 euros, while the fine gold version retails for 999 euros.

These collector's items, however, have no nominal value, as stated by Lars Knevels, a proxy for Euro-Mint. They should not be considered as an investment. The other special mintings are now available for purchase in the museum shop at the castle or via the online site of the mint company.

Schloss Benrath, a Baroque architectural gem located in Düsseldorf, was constructed between 1755 and 1770 as a pleasure palace and summer hunting lodge for Elector Palatine Carl Theodor and his wife, Electress Elisabeth Auguste. Unfortunately, Elisabeth Auguste died before the palace was completed, and it was intended as a retirement home for her. Elector Carl-Theodor only visited Benrath once, in June 1785.

The palace cost around 700,000 talers to build, although specific details about the expenses involved are not readily available. The interior and exterior work on the castle was completed in 1771, and it was finished on March 1st.

Prof. Dr. Stefan Schweizer, the scientific director of the Schloss and Park Foundation, admits that the anniversary can be tricky, as the exact date of completion is a topic of debate among historians. Despite this, the first two coins were presented to the foundation board in the cupola hall of the castle.

For those interested in learning more about the construction costs or the recent minting collaboration, it may be necessary to consult specialized historical records or official announcements from Düsseldorf cultural authorities or coin mints.

The Schloss and Park Benrath Foundation has expanded its collection with unique coins, specifically the fine silver and fine gold variants of the Benrather Schloss collection, which showcase the architectural beauty of the palace. Beyond coins, one could explore the fashion-and-beauty and home-and-garden styles inspired by the Baroque architectural gem of Schloss Benrath.
