Chat with Art Collectors Evelyne and Jacques Deret
In the heart of France, the picturesque city of Saint-Céré played host to the first 'Contemporary Art in Saint-Cère Country' event in 2014. This unique initiative was the brainchild of Evelyne and Jacques Deret, and was a collaboration with the Saint-Céré Lyric Art Festival. The event showcased the works of artists Myriam El Haik and Damien Marchal.
The project, which aims to build a large community of active new collectors supporting French artists, has been met with enthusiasm. E&J Deret, an art enthusiast who has purchased art online, finds the project an interesting way to access and discover new artists.
Art Collector, the driving force behind this project, supports young French artists through an annual exhibition and catalog. The selection of annual winners for the Art Collector project is supported by collaboration with German art institutions such as the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Deutscher Kunstvereine (ADKV) and specific art venues like the Kunstverein Bielefeld and Dortmunder Kunstverein.
The project invites critics, curators, and a new audience of amateurs through events like vernissages, dinners, and visits. It also partners with Jeune Création to support independent artists who are not exhibited in galleries. Each event culminates in the publication of a catalog.
Evelyne Deret, co-founder of Art Collector, perceives herself more as an 'art lover' than a collector. She envisions the project as a means to create a synergy between existing artistic manifestations and young plastic artists, and to bring together artists, their collectors, and their galleries for a presentation of their work.
The 'Contemporary Art in Saint-Céré Country' event received nearly 1,000 visitors, a testament to the project's success. E&J Deret, looking forward to the 2014 fall with the FIAC and museum exhibitions in Miami, believes that online art purchasing will continue to develop further.
The long-term ambition of Art Collector is to contribute to the radiance of French creation and connect with other collector groups abroad. A truly exciting endeavour for art lovers and collectors alike!
