Catholic Diocese Brings Clean Water to Tillengpat and Bungha with Solar-Powered Boreholes

The Justice Development and Peace Commission (JDPC) of the Catholic Diocese of Pankshin has donated three solar-powered boreholes to Tillengpat and Bungha Communities in Mangu Local Government Area, Plateau State. The boreholes, funded by the Isle of Man Government and collaborated on by the JDPC and the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development (CAFOD), aim to restore dignity, promote sanitation, protect the environment, and address the spread of communicable diseases.

Each borehole has a storage capacity of 20,000 liters and will benefit both Christians and Muslims in the communities. The Catholic Church does not discriminate in providing humanitarian support. Bishop Michael Gokum inaugurated the boreholes and handed them over to the communities, expressing his hope to alleviate the hardship of residents in finding potable water. The District Head of Bungha, Da John Danladi, thanked the donors and promised to put the facilities to good use for clean water availability. The JDPC also constituted and trained residents of the communities as a Water Users Committee to maintain the facilities.

The donation of the solar-powered boreholes is expected to significantly improve access to clean water for the residents of Tillengpat and Bungha communities. The Water Users Committee, trained by the JDPC, will play a crucial role in ensuring the longevity and proper use of the facilities.
