Canyon hiking trail reopens following closure, as per Piesberg announcement
After a temporary closure due to a rockfall in April, the popular hiking trail through the canyon in the Kultur- und Landschaftspark Piesberg is now open for visitors. The trail, which offers scenic hikes around Osnabrück Hausberg and leads up to the highest point of the city, is set to reopen in time for the "sonntags zum Piesberg - Industriekultur erleben" event series finale and the anniversary celebration of MIK and Gesellschaftshaus on September 1st.
The operation to make the trail safe for visitors was carried out by the Osnabrück ServiceBetrieb, with the assistance of landscape architect Klaus Wiebold and geologist Christoph Meyer. A 90-tonne excavator from GP Günter Papenburg AG stone quarry was used to remove potentially unstable rock layers on the north wall of the canyon.
While the field railway from 'Haseschacht' station to 'Südstieg / Erdzeitaltertreppe' in Piesberg remains closed, the track bed is being prepared for reopening. For the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding any reopenings or construction updates, we recommend checking with local authorities, such as the city of Osnabrück's official website or contacting the agency responsible for the management of the site.
In the meantime, field railway trips towards "Stuveschacht" are still being offered on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month until the end of October. Visitors can enjoy a unique journey through the park's industrial heritage while waiting for the field railway from 'Haseschacht' station to reopen.
The reopening of the Piesberg Canyon hiking trail is a welcome development for locals and tourists alike, offering an opportunity to explore the beauty of Osnabrück's landscape and industrial heritage once again.
The reopening of the Piesberg Canyon hiking trail provides an excellent opportunity for outdoor-living enthusiasts to immerse themselves in the picturesque home-and-garden surroundings of Kultur- und Landschaftspark Piesberg. The scenic trail offers not only scenic hikes around Osnabrück Hausberg but also a unique journey through the park's industrial heritage.
