Art Project Explores Kitzscher's Migration History This Weekend

An art project addressing migration in Kitzscher during the GDR era will be on display in the town's market this weekend and next. The exhibition, titled 'Arrival and Departure', explores the influx and exodus of residents due to internal migration and deindustrialization. The project is the brainchild of Mandy Gehrt, Marlet Heckhoff, and Paula Fraile.

Kitzscher, granted city rights in 1974, transformed from a small village into an industrial and mining town thanks to the coal industry. During the GDR era, many people from distant regions moved to Kitzscher seeking work and a new life. Conversely, the 1990s saw many residents leave due to deindustrialization.

The art project, to be held on Sunday, 19.10., and Saturday, 25.10., from 13-19 Uhr each day, aims to capture these historical movements. The artists, Mandy Gehrt, Marlet Heckhoff, and Paula Fraile, have created pieces that reflect both the arrival and departure of Kitzscher's residents.

The 'Arrival and Departure' art project offers a unique perspective on Kitzscher's history, highlighting the town's transformation and the lives of its residents. The exhibition is open to the public this weekend and next, providing an opportunity for locals and visitors alike to engage with the town's past.
