In the heart of Bergisch Gladbach, the bustling weekly market has long been a beloved attraction, boasting one of the most beautiful setups in the area. Recently, the Sevenich family, known for their highly regarded asparagus stand, has announced their departure after a remarkable 45-year run. However, the market stall will continue, with a new leader at the helm.

Burak Gökce, a retail salesman from Leverkusen, has taken over the Sevenich stand, starting from July 2025. Gökce, a retail specialist with a great passion for fruit and vegetables, will continue the stand in the spirit of the Sevenichs, ensuring the legacy lives on.

The Sevenich family business, now in its third generation, was run by Anni and Heinz Sevenich. Heinz, a third-generation market vendor, particularly cherished cherries, and his wife, Anni, fondly recalls that he personally selected and presented the goods attractively. Last Saturday marked the last time the duo was at the market stand, bidding farewell to many regular customers.

Despite their departure, the existing Sevenich team will remain, providing continuity for the customers who have been loyal to the market presence for many years. Gökce will maintain the quality and service that the Sevenich stand is known for, honouring decades of dedication by the previous owners.

The Sevenichs began their market journey when Heinz took over the business from his parents. Their workday started at 1:30 AM, purchasing fresh goods at the Cologne wholesale market. The asparagus from their stand was so highly regarded that a buyer once commented it was a reason to "live like God in France" in Bergisch Gladbach.

As the new boss, Gökce is determined to carry on the Sevenich legacy. He will continue the tradition of the popular fruit and vegetable stand, ensuring the Bergisch Gladbach market remains a vibrant and cherished part of the community.

The fruit and vegetable stand, formerly owned by the Sevinich family, will be managed by Burak Gökce starting from July 2025. Gökce, a retail specialist with a passion for food-and-drink, intends to maintain the high-quality lifestyle offerings synonymous with the Sevinich name at the Bergisch Gladbach market.

In addition to updates in leadership, the home-and-garden section of the market will continue to be manned by the existing Sevinich team to ensure consistency for long-standing customers who value their market presence. Gökce will strive to uphold the Sevinich legacy by maintaining the same commitment to quality and service that the stand has been known for over the decades.
