Ancient Sculptures Reunite with Pergamon Museum for the First Time in Centuries

The Pergamon Museum, one of the world's most significant museums, is currently undergoing a comprehensive renovation. This grand institution, located in the heart of Berlin, is a treasure trove of ancient artifacts, including the famous Pergamon Altar and the Telephos Frieze.

During the renovation, several sculptures from the Antiquities Collection have been carefully packed and are being prepared for their return to the Museum Island. One of the highlights of this collection is the Telephos Frieze, which has been temporarily housed in the 'Pergamon Museum. The Panorama' during construction.

Despite the ongoing renovation, the museum's head of the restoration of the Antiquities Collection, Wolfgang Maassmann, assures that the construction work has been very careful. He also reports that no damages have occurred during the construction work.

The Telephos Frieze panels are being meticulously returned to the Pergamon Museum, where they will once again be accessible for viewing, although the exact date has not been specified in the article. Interestingly, the Telephos Frieze is not part of the South Wing, which will remain closed for more than a decade. Instead, the famous Ishtar Gate with the Babylonian Processional Way is housed in the South Wing.

The museum's anticipated reopening is a gradual process. While the South Wing will remain closed, the North Wing and the Central Building are expected to reopen in spring 2027. This means that the famous Pergamon Altar will once again be accessible for viewing in spring 2027.

Throughout the construction process, the construction work team has been monitoring vibrations for years to ensure the safety and integrity of the museum's priceless artifacts. The Telephos Frieze panels, for instance, have been transported by truck with utmost care, reflecting the museum's commitment to preserving its historical treasures.

As the Pergamon Museum prepares for its grand reopening in 2037, it continues to uphold its reputation as a beacon of cultural heritage and historical significance. The anticipation builds as we eagerly await the day when we can once again marvel at the museum's awe-inspiring collection.
