A Simple Guide to Easily Paint Nesting Dolls
Refreshed and Revised Instruction
Hack Your Way to Holiday-Ready Nesting Dolls
Skill Level: Beginner
If you're not an art pro but fancy yourself a bit crafty, this project's for you! Today, we'll breathtakingly revamp some nostalgic nesting dolls. Let's dive in, shall we?
Hey, it's Jen from Brave New Home! Gather 'round as I share an emotional journey I took with some cherished nesting dolls. These ol' pals have lived through countless memories, only to end up missing or cracked. But fret not! I'm about to turn these into stunning showpieces that'll grace our homes again.
You'll need a set of wooden nesting dolls (buy unfinished wood if you want to skip a step!), primer, acrylic paints, and clear acrylic spray paint.
Oh, and before you ask: yes, I've got an interest in festive decor – and who could blame me?
(P.S. If my larger-than-life images make my dolls look a bit wonky, remember that I could've mixed my paints even more thoroughly. But hey, life's too short for perfection!)
These stacking charmers will meld with everyday decor or rock on as part of a special holiday setup (see what I did there?). Why not try Christmas colors for a spirit lift?

Decorate Your Russian Nesting Dolls
Equipment:- Pencil(s)- Paintbrush(es)- Sandpaper (optional)
Materials:- 1 set Wooden Nesting Dolls- Acrylic paint- Clear acrylic sealer- Sharpie(s)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Dolls: Sand the unfinished wood or painted surface if necessary. Remove dust particles. Apply a coat of primer, and let it dry.
Pro Tip: Sand any sticky spots or paint residue off the connection points between the dolls to make 'em easier to open and close!
- Create the Base Coat: Painting the base color with spray paint gives the nesting dolls a bold, festive look! Make sure to use a well-ventilated area and cover your workspace with newspaper or a drop cloth. Once dry, apply additional coats if needed.
Note: Prime first if the dolls have a glossy finish for better paint adhesion.
- Add Details: Once the base coat is dry, use acrylic paint to add details, patterns, or designs. Layer the paints for a neat finish. Start with larger areas, then work your way in.
Creative Ideas: - Stripes, polka dots, or floral designs - Holiday icons like snowflakes, holly leaves, or tiny bells - Faces or hair for your dolls
Techniques: - Use a small brush to paint intricate details, like faces and hair. - Experiment with metallic acrylic paint for a luxe look.
- Use Tape: If you want to create stripes or geometric patterns, use masking tape to section off areas. Paint over the tape with acrylic paint, then remove it once dry.
- Seal Your Masterpiece: Apply a clear sealant to protect your dolls from dust and moisture. This step is optional but recommended for outdoor or humid environments.
- Assemble and Amaze: Once the paint's dried and sealed, assemble your nesting dolls. Display them on a mantle, shelf, or as part of a holiday centerpiece.
