50 Volunteers Clean Up Salzgittersee on Holiday

Yesterday's holiday saw a successful cleanup of Salzgittersee, with around 50 volunteers participating. The event, held for the fifth time this year, was a collaborative effort involving the TG Sepia diving department, local clubs, and international marine conservation organization Sea Shepherd.

The German Life Saving Association (DLRG) played a crucial role in the event by transporting divers to their deployment site via boat. Despite the efforts, the amount of waste collected was relatively low, according to Frank Ehresmann, chairman of the organizing Underwater Park e.V. Sea Shepherd, who joined the cleanup, found half a kilogram of cigarette butts and smaller plastic parts, along with half a beach umbrella on the adjacent beach.

The cleanup was a testament to the power of community involvement in environmental conservation. While the amount of waste collected was low, every bit of effort counts in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of our waterways.
